For the first time Riyadh was included among the 100 cities that hosted events celebrating the Italian Design Day.
The Embassy of Italy organized a lecture by Architect Giovanna Carnevali about “Italian Design and NEOM – the City of the Future”. NEOM is the Kingdom’s planned mega-city currently under construction in a 26.500 square kilometres area in North-Western Saudi Arabia. It aspires to become a leading hub for renewable energy, smart mobility and technological innovation applied to every urban aspect.
Dr. Carnevali is a renowned PhD Architect. A former Director of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation in Barcelona, she is currently Executive Director of Urban Planning at NEOM.
The Italian Design Day is an initiative launched two years ago by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the purpose of promoting Italian design worldwide. The 2019 edition is dedicated to the “Cities of the future” and its aim is to highlight the capacity of Italian design to improve the quality of life in urban areas.
