"Facts and flavours of Italian lands, 200 years after the birth of Pellegrino Artusi”

 

 

The fifth edition of the World Week of Italian Cuisine will take place in Saudi Arabia from 3 to 12 December 2020.

The World Week of Italian Cuisine is an initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the support of Italian Embassies and Consulates around the world, aimed at promoting Italian cuisine and the uniqueness of original Italian ingredients and products.

This year marks the 200th anniversary since the birth of Pellegrino Artusi, who is considered to be the father of Italian home cooking. Under the title “Facts and flavours of Italian lands, 200 years after the birth of Pellegrino Artusi”, the fifth edition of the World Week of Italian cuisine celebrates the essential link between Italy’s food traditions and territory, the variety of Italian culinary heritage, its health benefits and environmental sustainability. These are also fundamental characteristics of the Mediterranean Diet, which was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity 10 years ago.

On the occasion of the Work Week of Italian Cuisine in Saudi Arabia, we aim to engage in an open and comprehensive dialogue about the past and the future of food – Ambassador Roberto Cantone declared. A dialogue focused on the importance of discovering, promoting and sharing different culinary traditions and identities, with a focus on the Mediterranean Diet, as well as on the fundamental challenges faced by the global food system today: how we can promote healthy lifestyles, how we should protect quality ingredients and products, how to tackle climate change and how to empower youth to foster change in the way we produce and eat food”.

 

For the fifth World Week of Italian Cuisine, the Embassy of Italy in Riyadh has partnered with the Future Food Network to present a series of unique video-recipes aimed at cooking an innovative menu, composed of five courses and inspired by the fundamental principles for a healthy, varied and balance meal at the core of the Mediterranean Diet.

 

Future Food is an inclusive network and inspirational platform to foster change in the global food system, in an entrepreneurial way. At its core, there is the Institute – a center of excellence for food intelligence and a training platform for change-makers, climate shapers and future leaders in the food innovation ecosystem with a strong focus on empowering youth. Combined with the Living Labs, Future Food is accelerating transformational innovations that are revolutionizing the food ecosystem unleashing the regenerative power of food.
